Update Log

Good day! It's been a little while since I've updated my site (over a month!), and in reality this current update is not yet finished. However, I've added enough content where I'm comfortable pushing a new update, and I really want to share what I've made (namely my button)!

First of all, I started out with the intention of detailing my process and changes of my Firefox's CSS settings. My previous configuration has slowly been breaking over the course of the past year(ish), so I wanted to remake it, and make sure I know what settings I've changed. I made some slight progress on it, but CSS is not something I'm fond of, and has taken me longer than I've intentioned.

Meanwhile, I've been browsing more and more of the interweb, I've come to see so many cool buttons across the websites on neocities, and felt like I should create my own. As you can see in Table 1, I've made one! I used an online GIMP editor to create it, heavily using the pixel-art owl from this colouring book website. I also have added the owl as my website's favicon. Please feel free to add my button to your site! I'll add yours to mine! Check out my links page for more information.

As of writing this, I'm hoping that I'll have another update sooner (or later), in which I will finish my Firefox CSS page, and have a collection of interesting buttons and links to share, however, it may be another month until I update this site again. Thanks for reading this, and enjoy!

Hello again! I have been working diligently on adding more content to my website! I've learned that, through using the Neocities CLI, I'm able to easily edit and view my website locally, use my preferred text editor (VS Code), and only publish updates when they are fully finished. As such, the updates that I make to this website will be larger, but less frequent.

I've added a few new pages, most notably a catalogue of the books that I've read recently (i.e. in the past three years). I used a .json file and a script to automatically populate them, which I find works pretty well. Please go take a look at it!. There are multiple more parts of both that page, and others, which I'd like to update, however I've been wanting to get this part online for a little while now.

I've also updated my navigation menu, which is to your left, created a few subpages, and linked some of my other spaces where I can be found online semi-frequently. If you try to contact me through these services, please send me a message on Neocities letting me know, since if I don't recognize your username I most likely won't respond.

Most importantly, I've added a guestbook! Please sign it. I would greatly appreciate it if you'd sign my guestbook :).

Hello! Thank you for visiting my site. I am scienceowl (often found online as ScienceOwl13), the webmasterIs this the correct term to use? I don't know! of this website! I am currently a university student (ableit on summer break) at a Canadian university.

This is the first proper website that I've ever had, and I intend for it to be a little space that I can use to collect, share, and record some of the things that interest me. These topics may (or may not) include: geology (the field I am studying), books that I've read (currently reading The Wizard and the Prophet by Charles C. Mann), and anything else that I will choose to include.

As previously mentioned, this site is still currently in its very early, preliminary stages, and as such is currently not very impressive. The latter may not change, but eventually this website will be thouroughly populated with information.

While I am the one who has written all of this text, and coded this website, I am not the one who has created this the CSS stylesheet that this website uses. Instead, it uses the publicly available, open-sourced, MIT-licensed "LaTeX.css" stylesheet, compiled by Vincent Dörig, which can be found at: https://latex.vercel.app, or on the corrosponding GitHub repository.

Why did I choose to format my website like this? That is a great question. I've tried to make my own, completely unique CSS themes before, and they did not turn out well, and I just finished typesetting a paper in LaTeX as a way to procrastinate on studying (and I enjoy the simplicity of it).

Please know that the navigation menu Table 1, both does not work on mobile, and does not follow the convention of using <ul> elements, and as such may not be accessible. Instead, please use the site map link that is found in the footer.
